What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Dr. John E. Upledger, D.O., OM., M. describes Craniosacral Therapy as, "a gentle, hands on method of enhancing the flow of cerebralspinal fluid, blood and lymph. Thus, it facilitates the body's natural healing. Its positive effects are most apparent in the brain and spinal cord, the immune and hormonal systems, and the alleviation of chronic dysfunction and pain."

By freeing the central nervous system to perform at its best, Craniosacral Therapy naturally eliminates pain and stress, strengthens your resistance to disease, and enhances your health and wellbeing. Since all body systems are affected by the central nervous system, it makes sense that balancing the central nervous system will help balance all other systems in the body. Due to how gentle this treatment is, it can be effective for all ages, from newborns to elders.

What is Kinesio Taping?

Kinesio Taping is the most advanced and recommended therapeutic taping method. It can help prevent overuse injuries and can also help reduce swelling in an injured area. It is often referred to as magical tape. This is an excellent addition to both a sports massage therapy session and a medical massage therapy session as it helps prolong the effects of the work we have done in the massage treatment room. It can also be beneficial for anyone with chronic pain, regardless of what bodywork session you choose.

It typically takes 5-10 minutes for the therapist to apply the tape and can be left on for up to 5 days. Unlike typical athletic tape, Kinesio Tape does not restrict movement or irritate the skin and therefore is hardly noticeable at all.

Kinesio Tape has the ability to:

Re-educate the neuromuscular system
Reduce pain
Enhance performance
Prevent injury
Promote good circulation and healing

Kinesio Taping is used by sports teams world wide and is also the leading rehabilitation tape used by health care professionals. To find out more about kinesio taping, visit the official website at www.kinesiotaping.com.

What is Assisted Stretching?

It is exactly that – assisted stretching. The therapist will help you stretch all areas of your body.

Even though we all know we should stretch, most of us are lost as to what to do. Many people don't know how to stretch adequately and are intimidated to take a class. This is where Gifted Touch comes in. For the same price as a regular relaxation massage, a Gifted Touch therapist will move you through a full body stretching routine that will leave you feeling invigorated and relaxed at the same time. Your body will feel more balanced, your energy levels will increase and your muscles and joints will thank you for investing in your healthcare.

A large amount of the stretching protocol is from advanced techniques from Aaron Mattes and his Active Isolated Stretching Method. To find out more about this extremely specific and effective stretching technique, you can visit Aaron Mattes site directly at www.stretchingusa.com.

Is an assisted stretching session right for you? Consider the benefits of stretching:

Stretching increases flexibility. Flexible muscles can make daily life easier. Tasks such as lifting packages, bending to tie your shoes or hurrying to catch a bus become easier and less tiring.
Stretching improves range of motion of your joints. Good range of motion keeps you in better balance, which will help keep you mobile and less prone to falls – and the related injuries – especially as you age.
Stretching improves circulation. Stretching increases blood flow to your muscles. Improved circulation can speed recovery after muscle injuries.
Stretching can relieve stress. Stretching relaxes the tense muscles that often accompany stress.

This session can be added to any other therapy session or can be incorporated into any regular massage therapy session. A 30 minute focused stretching session is a perfect adjunct to any other massage therapy or bodywork treatment. Or an hour stretching session can be received by itself. Try assisted stretching and the results will speak for themselves.

Health Condition(s): Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Low Back Pain, Plantar Fasciitis, Sciatica, and Whiplash.

What is Neuromuscular Therapy?

This technique is extremely effective at relieving and eliminating pain due to the specific and advanced nature of the treatment, and due to the fact that Neuromuscular Therapy Theory is based on a deep understanding of the physiological and neurological workings of the body. During a Neuromuscular Therapy treatment, trigger points that cause referred pain are treated and eliminated. Scar tissue and adhesions can be eliminated leaving the client with correct postural alignment and greater range of motion.

Neuromuscular Therapy takes a holistic approach to relieving pain by addressing all factors that may contribute to chronic pain and injury. Areas that we will consider when you come in for your neuromuscular treatment are:

Areas of Ischemia
Trigger Points
Nerve Entrapment/Compression
Postural Distortions
Emotional Wellbeing

By addressing these six areas together we are more likely to come to a resolution than if we focused solely on one aspect of pain. This is one of the reasons why Neuromuscular Therapy is very effective as a method of treatment for many conditions.

A typical session will include assessment of specific muscle function and pain patterns, followed by treatment of those specific areas using advanced techniques. Stretching techniques will follow in order to re-educate the muscles and realign muscle fibers, so that correct functional movement is possible. Common conditions that can be helped with Neuromuscular Therapy include:

Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
Rotator Cuff Injury
Sports Injuries
Sacroilliac Joint Pain
Headaches and Migraines
Forward Head Posture
Back & Neck Pain
Sciatic Pain
Plantar Fasciaitis
Scar Tissue Elimination
Postural Distortions
TMJ Dysfunction
Many more...

Relaxation Massage Therapy, not just a Luxury?

NO, it is not just a luxury. As our daily stresses increase, our immune system decreases and we become susceptible to a wide variety of diseases and illnesses. Given the fact that few of us take the time out necessary to relax and rest from the daily grind, massage therapy could be the answer. Not only will getting a relaxation massage therapy session on a regular basis reduce the immediate stress at the time of your massage, it will continue into your daily life. Just like working out, the effects of relaxation massage therapy sessions are cumulative. If you receive relaxation massage on a consistent and regular basis you will notice the difference in your stress levels and your every day life.

How does massage therapy help reduce stress in your life?

Relaxation Massage lowers blood pressure.
Relaxation Massage increases your White blood cell count, thus increasing your immune system.
Relaxation Massage reduces the stress hormones Epinephrine and Norepinephrine.
Relaxation Massage reduces local and referred pain by stimulating the release of endorphins (pain reducing chemicals within the body).
Relaxation Massage improves sleep patterns.
Relaxation Massage improves emotional wellbeing and outlook to life.

So, a Relaxation Massage lowers physiological stress on the body and helps keep you out of the Dr's office. It is worth remembering that the number one cause of illness and disease often begins with stress. The great thing about a relaxation massage is that it is safe, it is enjoyable and has no negative side effects.

A Relaxation massage is especially beneficial for:

Care-givers – for those who care for others. Teachers, nurses, doctors, dentists, and health care workers of all kinds.
Physical workers – for those who stress their bodies with their work or trade. Construction workers, truck drivers, postal workers, painters...
Desk workers – for those workers who spend long hours sitting at a desk using a computer, or talking on the telephone.
Travelers – for those spending long periods of time sitting in a car, train or plane.

Relaxation is a mini-vacation that you can enjoy on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis to enhance your physical health and mental wellbeing. Just as you tune up your car, you should tune up your body on a regular basis. Not to mention, a relaxation massage makes the perfect gift for those you love and care about.
